It shared NBC affiliation with WAAY-TV after moving to Huntsville. The Decatur era from 1954 to 1969 ended when the channel was relocated to Huntsville in the later. WMSL moved to Ch 48 in Jan 1969 while continuing to simulcast on Ch 23 for a number of days. It had also been affiliated with NTA Film Network in late 50s.
However WMSL lost DuMont following its closure in 1955, ABC when it allowed WAAY-TV to link with in 1959 and at last CBS when WHNT-TV joined the service in 1963. The channel though primarily an NBC affiliate, on its onset would carry the programming produced by all four networks of the time which included NBC, ABC, DuMont and CBS. The calls were first used in 1935 when Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company launched WMSL Radio. WMSL-TV under the ownership of Frank Whisenant first signed on air on Jand started broadcasting from its transmitters in Decatur on Ch 23 Tennessee Valley Radio and Television was the corporate name of Frank’s company which also owned WMSL 1400 AM (now WWTM).

This is a service we offer every day at the station, but why not come out and meet the Storm Team and have one of them program your radio? You can also register to win a free weather radio. We’ll also be programming weather radios at the Road Tour events for free. The kids will definitely get a kick out of the hands-on approach to science. They’ll have a booth set up and they will have demonstrations during the Road Tour presentation. On this Road Tour, Sci-Quest joins us to show off some amazing experiments. Make sure to stop by and try your hand at being a meteorologist. The Junior Forecaster station is one of the busiest on the Road Tour. These events are definitely for the whole family, but students probably have the most fun. The Storm Team will highlight the ways we keep you connected and have devices on hand so you can connect with us right away. Power was out, but our fans could keep up with news and weather on mobile devices. We used social media before the tornado outbreak, but on April 27th and the days that followed, Twitter and Facebook were lifelines. One thing we do at WAFF is use social media to help our viewers stay weather aware. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun.īrad Travis and Jeff Castle put together a great presentation to let people in the Tennessee Valley know how they work to keep families safe.

The first WAFF 48 Weather Road Tour in this series kicked off last week in Florence. The WAFF 48 Storm Team is coming to a school near you to share their extensive weather knowledge. At the very least, you bought a car charger for your electronics so you can stay in touch in case of a prolonged power outage. Especially after April 27th, 2011, a lot of us have emergency plans in place for our family. Most of us North Alabamians know the importance of being weather aware.
